Sunderland will return to European competition for the first time since 1973 and will play at the iconic San Siro stadium.
This was decided on Friday in the draw made in Monaco for the Europa League.
Sunderland, captained by Granit Xhaka, finished seventh in the Premier League and will face seven-time European champions Milan in one of their eight league matches.
Xhaka will also have a direct confrontation with Arbër Hoxha, who plays for Dinamo Zagreb.
Sunderland will also face AZ Alkmaar, Anderlecht, Jagiellonian, Lech Poznan, Levski Sofia and Torreense.
One of the big teams in the Europa League is Juventus.

Juventus' opponents are Real Sociedad, AZ Alkmaar, Rennes, Ferencvaros, Omonia, Celta, NEC Nijmegen and Hapoel Beer-Sheva.
Milan will also face Benfica, Olympiacos, Ferencvaros, Salzburg, Bournemouth, Ararat-Armenia and Levski Sofia.
